Welcome

Hi and welcome to Minti Studios! My name is Kim McCullough and Minti Studios has been a work in progress in creating a creative space for Teaching & Learning. Minti studios has always been a creative pursuit, but has evolved over the years to focus on education. I, myself, found school challenging in a few ways, as I was that kid that needed to understand ‘why’. I finished school at 19 unsure what I wanted to do, so I worked and travelled. I had an interest in psychology and ended up studying an undergraduate in Applied Psychology at ucc at 37-years-old, and graduated with a Masters at 43. This experience of returning to education helped me to understand how traditional methods of education don’t always suit everyone and peaked an interest in Creative Pedagogy for me. I researched Creative Pedagogy at a tertiary level of education for my Master’s thesis, and the experience of conducting qualitative research in this area compounded my interest. I have worked in Cork Life Centre for the past few years, it’s an alternative educational centre with some of the greatest students i have been afforded to learn from.

This journey of learning and research has prompted a shift for Minti Studios, as a creative space that focuses on student personal development and the production of creative resources (late 2024). The aim of minti studios is to offer a more diverse and inclusive approach that might help students to learn and grow as a whole person.

This process is a little intimidating at times but I am also very excited of the possibilities. I start the UCC IGNITE Incubation Program in April, and that is to work on a teaching resource I developed a few years ago. And I am also going to start a podcast soon called ‘Candid with Kim’, aimed at having candid conversations with people about who they are, what matters to them, and just being vulnerable together.

Thanks for stopping by!

Until next time

Kim
